 Trip to Langkawi Island (Unit-Co-curicurrium) 12 November 2010 - 15 November 2010

On 12th to 15th of November, we have attended a trip to Langkawi Island organized by Unit Kokurikulum of SMJK Yu Hua. There were 80 students who took part in the trip leaded by 5 teachers,
Mr. Nagaya, Mdm. Ng Soo Ha, Mr. Mohd Nor Hashim, Mdm. Lim Mei Lee and Mr. Mohd Noor Baharom.

At 9pm of 12th November 2010, all the participants were gathered at the basketball court of school. A short and simple introduction about the trip was given to students by Mr. Nagaya. When everything was get ready, it was about 10pm. We departed from our school to our destination, Pulau Langkawi.

The next day, we reached Kuala Perlis at 7.30 am. We have our breakfast at the restaurants opposite the jetty. After an hour, we took ferry from the jetty to Pulau Langkawi. It took about an hour time and we could enjoy the view of the sea on the way. Around 10am we reached the jetty of Langkawi Island. After that, we took buses to Tanjung Malie Inn, Pantai Chenang to check in our motel.

We had been given around 2 hours to take a rest at motel and have lunch. After that, at 1.45 pm, we gathered at the lobby of motel. We took buses to start our first activity, Island Hopping. Taking the 3.5 hours Island Hopping tour, one will get to visit Pulau Dayang Bunting, Pulau Singa Besar and Pulau Beras Basah. Pulau Dayang Bunting (Isle Of The Pregnant Maiden) was about 15 minutes from where we left. The name comes from the island’s physical appearance, which looked like a pregnant lady lying on her back.

We got off the boat at the jetty in Pulau Dayang Bunting to visit another legendary legacy, Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake Of The Pregnant Maiden) We were given approximately an hour to spend on the island doing whatever we wanted. We climbed a rock stair for 15 minutes to reach the lake and there were a lot of monkeys around. Luckily they were not aggressive.

There were activities offered at Tasik Dayang Bunting. Most of us rented a life jacket to swim in the lake which is 30 feets deep. Some of us rented a paddle boat to get into further lake while some of us just stay on the land to take some photos.

Then we headed to Pulau Singa Besar to see eagle feeding. There were about 30 eagles of various colors flying around and retrieving chicken meats thrown into the water. It was awesome and fascinated. After that we headed to Pulau Beras Basah, our last destination for Island Hopping. It is a very beautiful beach with blue-green sea water. Almost everyone get wet included teachers, it was a very relaxing moment.

Around 6pm, we went back to our motel. We started our game at the beach of the motel. Students were divided into 8 groups to play the games such as balloons breaking and messages transferring. After that, everyone back to their room to clean up themselves. At night, we have dinner with friends at the restaurants nearby the motel. Then, it was the party time in our room!

14th November 2010, it was the second day we’re in Langkawi Island. Early in the morning, we have our breakfast at the store nearby the motel. Then, we start our visiting around Langkawi Island. Our first destination is Makam Mahsuri, which took about an hour. After that, we went for the cable-car ride, which takes visitors all the way up to Mount Mat Cincang, Langkawi’s second highest peak. At the final station of the cable car, we climbed a set of staircases that cuts through a thin forest to reach the observatory deck above. We enjoyed the view and took a lot of photographs with our friends and also visitors from out country.

After that, it was the lunch time. Students and teachers of bus A have their lunch at jetty, while bus B have their lunch at Pekan Kuah. However, we met up with each other after lunch to buy some souvenirs and some cheap chocolates at Pekan Kuah. Around 6pm, we went to Eagle Square to take some photographs. After that, we went back to motel and it’s time for our dinner and party again.

15th November 2010, it was the last day of the trip. At 7am, everyone checked out the room and took buses to the jetty. We took the ferry at 9am to leave Langkawi Island. We reached Kuala Perlis around 10am and have our breakfast there. After that, we visited Kelam Cave, which located about 33km north of Kangar, the capital of Perlis. Everyone was getting wet in the cave walk as part of the way is just same like a river that flood until your knee. Around 5pm, we depart from Kelam Cave to Kajang. Around 8pm, we have our last dinner at Penang and celebrated birthday for the birthday Boy – Arvin Rao. At 9pm, we depart from Penang and reached Kajang around 1.30 am. It was an unforgettable memory.
