AN APPEAL FOR FUNDS BY YU HUA SCHOOL BAND

The Yu Hua School Band started as a community band in the early 70s under the patronage of the Hulu Langat Hokkien Association and was officially commemorated in July 1980. Over the years, the Hulu Langat Hokkien Association has provided necessary funds for the instruments, band uniforms and training cost for the band.

Through the years, many students from struggling families in Hulu Langat have had an opportunity to learn music and to play musical instruments during their school years. The experience had enriched many young lives. Band members who had graduated from secondary school carry with them fond and wonderful memories. In fact, some of their children are now in the band.

Today, the Yu Hua School Band continues to channel the positive aspects of learning a musical instrument to 40 odd members. Learning music helps the students to counter today's world of shallow gratification as learning an instrument requires patience, diligence and deep commitment. The students learn to make beautiful music together, playing as one. All these qualities are much sought after in the youth of today and the school band has been a good training ground.

Many students from the total number of 3400 in the school today, would like to join the school band. However, there is a dire shortage of instruments and other facilities. Many of the original instruments are already over twenty years old and can hardly be used. The cost of replacing instruments, maintenance and training will come to about RM1 00,000 a year. All instruments are cared for and put to good use by many generations of students, not only to learn positive values but also to soar with the music.

Please help make it possible for more students to learn music and play an instrument while completing their secondary education. Be a generous sponsor and come watch the band perform a concert at 7.00 evening on Saturday, 4 August 2007 at the Yu Hua School Hall, Jalan Low Ti Kok, 43000 Kajang.
