History of genetics: Mendelian experiment
-
phenotype = genotype + environment
-
heredity = genotype/phenotype

various breeding methods: selection,
hybridization, vegetative propagation, back
selection, predigree selection, backcross breeding,

started with species RRIM 893, which produced 2300
kg/ha

All new variety are evidence of successful
genetic crossing with the help of biotechnology

Career in Applied science will have more
employment opportunities as it is more practical &
available in Malaysia. Theoretical science can only
end in graduates working as scientist, lecturers, or
teachers as it is very much restricted by the
environment. There are fewer employment
opportunities in Malaysia as not much funds are
channeled for research & development. Malaysia is
still a developing country which need a lot of fund
to develop basic infrastructure & public facilities.
It is not a very attractive job as it is very time
consuming & need much dedication in research.
Minimum period of time to get results on the
transfer of genetic variety is 6-7 years
