Winner - Jorinn Chee Ka-Yee

After weeks of
grueling auditions, Jorinn Chee Ka-Yee (pic) finally
sang her way through to the Grand Final and emerged
as the winner of Yu Hua Idol 2006 in front of
1000-person-strong audience, capturing more than 25%
of the votes casted.
She beat 9 other finalists with her own rendition of
Britney Spears' Lucky, which is the only English
song performed on that day. One of the judges
commented after her performance that he has found
the Yu Hua Idol in her.
This was the first time in Yu Hua history students
are allowed to vote for their favourites in a
competition. The winner was decided by both the
judges (30%) and the students (70%). The judges for
that day were Mr. Yong Keng Yow, our school teacher,
Mr. Yong Wai Man, an actor, and Mr. Ma Long, a
songwriter.
More than 70 students auditioned for the Yu Hua idol
but only 24 students were shortlisted for the second
audition. From there, ten were chosen to compete for
the title at the Grand Final. Among them were
Michelle Wong, the first runner-up, and Chua Evon,
the second runner-up.
The singing competition was organized by Recreation
Club. Reporters from local media were also present
to report the event.
