the concluded Science & Maths Exhibition

1.
INTRODUCTION.
The main purpose
of holding this exhibition is to bring about the
awareness of the students in
the
importance of Science & Mathematics in their daily
lives. It should serve as a motivation
for them to
indulge in Science & Mathematics activities, and
hence to attract them towards
these
subjects in school. It should help to integrate
general knowledge with the development
of the
country. It is hoped that it can also strengthen the
quality of teaching-learning process
in Science &
Mathematics in the school. The exhibition presents
works of students in a series
of carefully
composed preparation.
2.
OBJECTIVES.
a. To
overcome the fear of the students towards the
Science & Mathematics subjects and to
strengthen their interest in these subjects.
b.
To give opportunity to students with various
types of intelligence to show their
creativeness and
innovative ideas.
c.
To expose students in their creative thinking
in the field of research.
d. To
encourage co-operation between students and teachers
in problem-solving.
e. To
bring about awareness of parents and the public
towards the importance of Science
and
Mathematics as well as their contribution to
society.
f.
To gauge the effectiveness and adequacy of
information to the public.
g.
To remind the public of their everyday lives
which are connected to Science & Mathematics.
3.
ACTIVITIES.
The
exhibition involves :
a.
Demonstration and explanation, through
thought-provoking projects and activities, the
impact of Science &
Mathematics and their uses and applications in daily
lives.
b.
Teams of students co-operating and working
together to share experiences, debate
issues, enjoy
demonstrations and performances.
c.
Identification of truth by grasping
scientific knowledge and rebutting the wrong with
irrefutable facts.
d.
Proving Science & Mathematics to be the key
in helping to solve daily problems and
thus bring comfort
to the society.
e.
Focusing on the effect of building-up a knowledge
society.
4. PROJECT
DISPLAY.
Any project
display should :
a.
Show essential elements for the Jury to
appreciate the quality of the project.
b.
Conform to the strictest safety requirements.
c.
Exhibit the essential points of the work
which may consist of working models, videos, and
other demonstration materials.
5. GUIDELINES
FOR PROJECTS.
a. A
typewritten presentation in English for display.
b. A
scientific summary, containing the most important
points of the project ( eg. aim,
materials, methods, observations, conclusion.)
c. A
straightforward description of the project of
not more than 10 lines in simple
English.
6.
CONTESTANTS.
All students
of SMJK YU HUA from Form 1 till Form 6.
a.
Projects may have been worked upon by individual
participant or by teams of not more
than
3 people.
b.
At the contest, contestants should be
available for interviews and be prepared to explain
their projects to
the public.
c.
Contestants shall disclose to interviewing
Jury members all materials and information
sources that they
have used in carrying out their projects.
7.
DEADLINES.
The written
project must be ready to be reviewed by the
respective supervising teachers by
25 MAY
2005.
8. JURY.
Criteria
used to assess projects shall be the followings :
a.
originality and creativity in the
identification of and the approach to the basic
problem.
b.
skill, care and thoroughness in designing and
carrying out study.
c.
following through of the study from
conception to conclusion.
d.
reasoning and clarity in the interpretation
of the results.
e.
quality of written report
f.
presentation and ability to discuss the
project with members of the jury.
