A
Memorable Family Holiday
“Hooray! I have gotten seven As!” I could still
remember. It was November. My parents said that if I
could achieve straight As, they would reward me. Who
knew they would reward me by taking me to Hong Kong!
It was 4 a.m. in the morning when I woke up and
prepared for the trip to Hong Kong. I knew my
parents and all my other relatives were downstairs
in the living room waiting for the rest of us. My
parents and all my relatives had planned the trip
secretly before the result came out. At 5 a.m., two
taxis came to pick us up. We loaded up both taxis
with our luggage, and made our way to the airport.
When we arrived at the airport, it was 6 a.m. my two
cousins, Shamus and Sharlene kept on complaining
that they were hungry. So, we had breakfast at
McDonald’s. We waited as my parents checked-in our
luggage before heading to gate for our flight. By 8
a.m., they announced that our flight was departing.
My brother, James was so excited he could hardly
keep. I, myself, was excited too. At 12 noon, the
plane landed in Hong Kong. Our tour guide, Gary, was
waiting for us outside the terminal. When we got our
luggage, we looked for green flag reading “Chinese
Airlines”, and we found Gary. When we were in the
bus, Gary introduced himself and the bus driver. He
started by introducing some of the Hong Kong
cultures. He spoke English and sometime Cantonese,
which I could hardly understand.
Our first destination was the Women’s Street. We
shopped around and had our lunch there. My father
was daring enough to try the “stinking bean curd”
which is a typical Hong Kong delicacy. Next, we went
to Madamme Taussaud’s Wax Museum. I had photos with
“Eddie Murphy, Jackie Chan, David Beckham, and Tiger
Woods”. Since the museum is located on Victoria
Hill, we got to visit two places at a time. The view
from Victoria Hill was breathtaking. The next day
was the best part of the whole trip. We got to spend
an entire day at Hong Kong Disneyland! I was so
excited I woke up earlier than anyone else!
After a “dim sum” breakfast, we headed to
Disneyland. Upon arrival, we were given our tickets.
In Disneyland, it was like a dream come true! All my
favorite characters like Mickey Mouse and his
girlfriend, Minnie Mouse, Cinderella and Snow White
were all there! My cousins and I spent the whole day
riding the rides and watching shows. The night ended
with a dazzling display of fireworks near
Cinderella’s castle.
On our last day in Hong Kong, we spent the afternoon
shopping in Women’s Street, and touring the city
streets. At the airport, everyone exchanged goodbyes
and contact numbers. As I sat on the plane, I waved
goodbye to the city of Hong Kong.
It was certainly a memorable family holiday. I’ll
never forget it as long as I live.
