The Happiest Day of My Life

The happiest day of my life; I can remember every second of it. It was the day I got my UPSR results.

The day before it, when I reading the newspaper, I came across a small article. Its title was “UPSR results coming out TOMORROW”. I was so nervous as in “HELP! The sky is falling!” I felt so nervous I could not sleep that night. The few words that always came to my mind were “UPSR, results… must have 7A’s!”

The next day came too quickly. I was so nervous as a civilian with an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on his head. My brain could explode any second. I could feel my heart beating as much as 160 times a second. Still, I knew I could not avoid it. So, I started walking to school. The only thing I could do then was to pray that my results would be good.

When I reached the school, I saw a legion of people looking at the notice board, when they saw their results, they had different reactions. Some smiled, some even yelled.

I looked through the list to locate my name. When I found my name, I checked all the columns one by one. English: A. I had already expected that. The paper was too easy. Chinese comprehension: A. well, that wasn’t so hard either. Chinese Essay: A. I admit this one caught me a surprise, as my standard in Chinese Essay-Writing was just average. Well, that’s three down, four more to go; I murmured nervously. Then I continued examining the remaining columns one by one. Mathematics: A. Well, Mathematics was easy. Unlike languages, you just have to remember some certain formulas, which I did quite well. Bahasa Melayu Comprehension: A. I think that caught me off guard. You could say that luck was on my side. Bahasa Malaysia Essay-writing: A. Well, I had expected this too. Apart from English, Bahasa Malaysia Essay-writing was one of my strong points.

Well, there were six down, only one more to go. I didn’t have to look at the column. I knew it was science. My science was usually rotten. I could not even tell a flower from a fungus. Nevertheless, I looked at the column to find out the result; Science: A. words alone could not be describe my joy at that time. It was a miracle.

As I finished checking my results, I went to teacher’s office to claim my certificate. Then, I went home to inform my parents about my results. They congratulated me and promised that I would be handsomely rewarded. Then, we went out to my favorite restaurant to celebrate this joyous occasion.

That night, I ended my day by making a diary entry. As usual, my diary entry started off with “Dear Diary”, but the ending was different from the other entries. My other entries were always about my dissatisfaction and complaints. They always ended with “Why does it have to be so” or “I hate this day”. But the special day, I ended my entry with “this is the happiest day of my life.”
